It features a 3.0-litre inline-four engine, which was the largest four-cylinder engine in production at the time. This naturally aspirated unit produces around 211 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, delivering a 0–60 mph time of approximately 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. The engine uses a 16-valve DOHC setup and multi-port fuel injection, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

Styling-wise, the S2 adopted the wide-body look of the 944 Turbo, giving it a more aggressive stance. It’s a 2-door coupe with seating for four, and it weighs about 1340 kg. The transaxle layout—engine in the front, gearbox in the rear—provides near-perfect weight distribution, enhancing handling.
